Period Pimples Down There

Have you ever experienced pimples around your genital area?

It may also look like bump. Well, if you have then you are not alone on this. I’m writing to you based on my own personal experience in the past.

I have also taken out time to research intensely on this topic so I can relate well on it. I hope you read this blog to the end.

Do you know the cause of vaginal pimples isn’t always obvious. Some of the reasons include:

Contact dermatitis- this is a reaction to something that touches the skin and it may cause the vaginal to be sensitive to;

  • Soaps : especially if they contain fragrances or essential oils
  • Feminine wipes, lotions, powders, deodorant or perfume. (while growing up as an African child, I remember how my mum always rub powder all over my body after shower down to my vagina) this was like a daily ritual for us (laughs)
  • Tampons of sanitary pads (I really would love to know how my ladies stay comfortable with Tampons)
  • Douches
  • Condoms, sperm, lubricants
  • Over-the-counter topical medications (I have witnessed this and it wasn’t so pleasant)
  • Laundry detergent and dryer sheets
  • Vagina discharge
  • Urine: it is always advisable to wipe after urinating

Note: any irritation of the skin can result in formation of pimples.

Folliculitis:  pimples around the genital area may be a result of infection of the hair follicles due to bacteria. Do you know shaving your pubic hair is one potential cause of folliculitis ? As your pubic hair start growing out of the follicles, it curls back towards the skin causing irritation. In some cases, the air grows back into the skin which is known as ingrown hair.

The roughness of a razor or shaving stick on sensitive skin can cause;

  • razor burn
  • bumps
  • blisters
  • pimples
Acne before period

Do you think it is safe to pop a vagina pimples ?

It is best not to try to pop any form of pimples as this can spread bacteria and lead to infection. For some people, their vaginal area can be sensitive and can be easily irritated and you are likely to end up making things much worse by popping it.

Pimples can become a boil if it is filled with pus and will continue to grow bigger for several days and this can become painful at it grows. You should never try to burst or pick at a boil near your genital, it is likely to rapture on its own and if you need this to go in no time, it is advisable to see a doctor who can Lance the Boil in a way that will prevent infection.

How are vagina pimples treated?

In most cases, pimples will clear up on their own or with treatment within a few weeks. If they don’t or if they are getting worse, kindly see a doctor. Your doctor will be able to tell what to expect.

Once you identify the cause, avoid coming into contact with the irritant (the cause).

These tips can help you prevent future irritation;

  • Avoid tight fitting clothing that can cause friction
  • Choose underwear made of cotton rather than synthetic materials
  • Try not to touch pimples
  • Avoid very hot weather when bathing
  • Keep the bubble bath and scented soaps away

TIPS- Shaving can irritate the skin and cause pimples around the vulva. You might want to ditch the razor and get a scissors instead. If you choose to shave your pubic hair, go with the angle of your hair in downward slant.
